Guide
IRCC application status messages, explained calmly
The IRCC secure account is the official window into your file. It is also a mirror that updates unevenly. Learning what statuses roughly mean — and what they never promise — reduces a lot of unnecessary panic.
Where to check
Sign in through the official status channels linked from Canada.ca. Moose never asks for IRCC credentials and cannot show government statuses.
Common patterns applicants see
- Submitted / received type language — IRCC has your application in the system.
- Biometrics or medical requests — action required; respond quickly.
- In progress / review language — work is ongoing; not a decision.
- Decision made / documents requested — read the message carefully and follow instructions.
Wording varies by application type and account interface. Always trust the text and documents in your account over a blog glossary.
Healthy checking habits
Pick a daily or weekly check-in instead of refreshing every hour. Log what changed in Moose so you have a personal timeline when the portal stays quiet.
Frequently asked questions
Why hasn’t my status changed in months?
Many stages — especially background checks — do not produce frequent public updates. No change does not automatically mean a problem.
Can IRCC call-centre agents see more than my account?
IRCC notes that agents often cannot share more detail than what is available online. Use the account and official tools first.
Should I submit a web form for an update?
Usually only in situations IRCC describes — for example, when you are past normal processing times or need to update information. See our web form guide.
