Ghost updates: when IRCC’s timestamp moves quietly
In applicant communities, a “ghost update” usually means the IRCC account’s last-updated time changed even though no clear new message appeared. It feels like someone touched the file — and then said nothing.
What it might be
Internal review steps, medical or biometrics linkages, security checks, or system maintenance can all affect timestamps. IRCC does not publish a public legend that maps every timestamp change to a human-readable event.
What it is not
- Not a guaranteed PPR.
- Not proof of refusal.
- Not a reason to submit repeated web forms.
If your application is within normal processing times and IRCC has not asked for anything, waiting is often the correct action.

Does a ghost update mean approval is coming?
No. A changed timestamp can mean many internal events — or little that affects you. It is not a reliable approval signal.
