Medical passed: what happens next?
Seeing a medical result move to “passed” (or similar wording) is a real milestone. It is also easy to over-read. A passed immigration medical exam clears one requirement — it is not the final PR decision.
What it usually means
IRCC has accepted the medical information linked to your application for now. Processing can continue to background checks, additional document requests, or decision.
What to prepare anyway
- Keep passports valid.
- Watch for document requests or portal messages.
- Maintain lawful status if you are in Canada.
Track it beside the portal
Log the medical-passed date in Moose so your personal timeline stays honest when the portal goes quiet again.
Frequently asked questions
Does medical passed mean I am approved for PR?
No. It means the medical requirement for your application is satisfied at that point. Other checks and a final decision may still be outstanding.
How long are medicals valid?
Validity windows are set by IRCC and can require a new exam if processing runs long. Follow instructions in your account and on Canada.ca.
Should I contact IRCC the day medical passes?
Usually no, unless IRCC asked you to confirm something or you have a separate update to submit.
