Biometrics after AOR: timing and next steps
For many permanent residence applicants, a biometrics request arrives after AOR. IRCC’s biometrics pages explain how to book and what to bring. Treat the letter’s deadline as firm.
Practical steps
- Pay the biometrics fee if not already paid as instructed.
- Book a Visa Application Centre or authorized location appointment.
- Bring the required identification and instruction letter.
- Keep the receipt and note the completion date.
Delays in booking are one of the few timeline factors fully in your control. Do not wait until the last week.
After biometrics
Status may take time to reflect completion. Continue monitoring for medical or document requests. Log the date in Moose next to your AOR.

How long do I have to give biometrics?

I gave biometrics for a previous application. Do I need them again?
Sometimes IRCC can reuse biometrics still within validity; sometimes they ask again. Follow the instruction letter for your current file.
Does completing biometrics restart processing?
Completing a required biometrics step allows IRCC to continue. It is not a personal countdown reset you can calculate precisely.
