For the best results: use good natural or diffuse lighting (avoid harsh direct flash), ensure the antique fills the guide frame, photograph from a straight-on angle, and make sure the image is sharp. If the result seems inaccurate, try photographing a distinctive detail such as a maker's mark, hallmark, or decorative motif.
Antique Identifier covers thousands of categories including furniture, silverware, ceramics, porcelain, jewellery, paintings, sculptures, textiles, clocks, maps, books, coins, militaria, and much more. If it has historical value, we can try to identify it.
Yes. On the Scan screen tap the Library icon (bottom-left) to choose any existing photo from your camera roll. The same analysis pipeline runs on uploaded photos as on live camera captures.
In Standard quality mode, most analyses complete in 8–20 seconds depending on your internet connection. High Detail mode is more thorough and typically takes 15–35 seconds. A 75-second timeout applies — if your connection is very slow the app will display an error and let you retry.
Standard quality provides a concise, fast identification focusing on the key factors. High Detail mode uses a more thorough prompt and up to 1,800 tokens — it provides expert-level analysis with specific period references, potential maker attributions, and nuanced condition assessment. You can change this in Settings → Analysis Quality.
📊 Understanding Results
High Confidence means the AI identified strong, distinctive features that clearly match known antique types. Medium Confidence means a plausible identification based on partial visual cues. Low Confidence means the item is ambiguous — perhaps a reproduction, an uncommon type, or the photo did not capture enough detail. Always consult a professional appraiser for valuable pieces.
Market value ranges are derived from recent auction results, dealer pricing, and market trend data. They represent a realistic retail or auction range at the time of analysis. Values can vary significantly based on condition, provenance, and regional demand. The estimates are intended as a guide — for significant pieces, always obtain a formal appraisal from a certified professional.

🔧 Troubleshooting
This is usually caused by a slow or unstable internet connection. Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data, then tap "Scan New" to start a fresh scan. The app will cancel any stuck analysis automatically when you begin a new one. If it persists, force-quit the app and reopen it.
Antique Identifier requires camera permission to scan antiques. Go to your iPhone's Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Antique Identifier and enable access. Then reopen the app.
Try rescanning with a clearer, better-lit image. Focus on distinctive features — a maker's mark, a hallmark, or a unique decorative element. You can also ask the AI Advisor with your image for a follow-up consultation. For high-value pieces, always supplement AI analysis with a professional appraisal.
